lyrics: Hi sweetie, it’s Dad. Um, was calling wondering if either this afternoon or tomorrow you could drop down at work, just so we could test your computer and/or phone with the sound system and make sure that the music will go from where you have it to out the speakers. Um, if you get a chance give me a call and let me know if this is possible and when. Thank you, bye bye.

Slip Away 02:45
lyrics: Am I weaker than those before me Who take it to the chest and move on Because I zoom in where I want Oh, it’s where I want But I know that girl is out there I can knock on her door Say welcome back, you’re up now No, I can’t tell you how much more But I do get to slip away In a room, in a corner without you I do get to slip away, slip away I do get to slip away In a room, in a corner without you I do get to slip away, slip away And be with you But I do get to slip away In a room, in a corner without you I do get to slip away, slip away I do get to slip away In a room, in a corner without you I do get to slip away, slip away And be with you I do get to slip away, I do get to slip away, slip away And be with you

lyrics: She’s your bedside table At the end of the day Like an overnight ICU stay She’s not only able, She knows no other place she’d runaway She wants to stay I’ll bookmark our place I’ll solve the mystery that we’ll never know I’ll type up our fate I’ll write the story we get, And we’ll get to go Rest for me and I’ll press play on every song you gave Let it be my choice to make some magic at our grave Cuz I can be your paperweight I am your ashtray Let me be where you lost your place, A crumpled final page A crumpled final page Let me say go I’m a pillow You’re a cloud and you can’t stay now You gotta go I’m the lampshade that gives a little glow Let me say go I’m a pencil Listening, I took down every note Let me say go Before I didn’t know This is the part where you love so you let ‘em go She’s your bedside table at the end of the day Like a legend a father can make Tell me if you’re able If your story’s too late, take to the grave Is mine the same The CMO’s in place The conversation of her and little moans Translate anyway She doesn’t know how she knows, but she knows I’ll find every hand to shake Pull every string in place Answers in my voice will come In not possible ways Cuz I’m your carpenter, always I am your deejay Be your own table, take my place And uncrumple the page Let me say go I’m a pillow You’re a cloud and you can’t stay now You gotta go I’m the lampshade that gives a little glow Let me say go I’m a pencil Listening I took down every note Let me say go Before I didn’t know This is the part where you love so you let ‘em go

Cut the Deck 04:11
lyrics: Cut the deck There’s a bridge between Presby and Montefiore A pocket of cards, I walked to all of your floors Remember when it snowed, but I could go down Forbes Just an Oakland walk to your door And to the gift shop, I went down to buy The deck with the tie dye, the cartoon smile, and I Walked alone with a chocolate phone in Starzl Hall They said you’d never get it But you got it, and more I hope it’s in my genetics Waiting in a shop drawer I don’t know what to look for Can you close your eyes Can you smile again Can you crack a dad joke at a nurse again Can I give you mine Can I cash out inheritance Can you hear me Cut the deck There’s a kid and she’s running down the dock and you’re Watching from the wheel, listening to her, before The sun comes up today we’ll pull away from shore The coffee’s black, the pastries are warm And then later tonight you’ll sit outside Eat up, our catch is fried, the cribbage board’s inside So I’ll go grab it with a zero, and we’ll peg up You said never forget it Sang it every day Added my name and said it Everything’s gonna be okay You’ll want us to be okay Can you close your eyes Can you smile again Can you crack a dad joke at a nurse again Can I give you mine Can I cash out inheritance Can you hear me Can you close your eyes Can you smile again Can you crack a dad joke at a nurse again Can I give you mine Can I cash out inheritance Can you hear me Can you hear me Cut the deck

lyrics: Tonight you’re telling me your best friend died And you don’t know if he got what he wanted, what we want in life Did he ever get, does he ever get to, get to feel Big, like he wanted Big, like he wanted You wanna feel Oh, you say it’s cuz the cigarettes can lie For a minute, god, they really make you feel Big like you wanted And you know that’s why He had to breathe it in Had to swallow everything When you drink not tasting it Big, like he wanted Big, like he wanted Big You wanna feel Will she ever get what you tell her? You get it so thoroughly Your confidante, you won’t let her Lack confidence like you see You tell her that if you had your way She’s gonna pattern break Tell her how to turn out, how to turn a different way Big, like he wanted Big, like he wanted Big, like he wanted She goes downstairs to say goodnight She goes downstairs to say goodnight She goes downstairs to say goodnight She goes downstairs to say goodnight Trade sleep to talk about life Trade sleep to talk Tonight I’m telling you the week you die This patio where we talk is going with you to the other side A lotta new cement, excavator rolling in Dig, cuz you won it Nobody else’s Dig, cuz you won it I wanna still dig She plays the audiocassettes in line Just to hear him, god, they really make him as Big as he wanted And she wonders why A deejay never knows All around the world they go No one quite as powerful Big, like he wanted Big, like he wanted Big You wanna feel A daughter gets what you tell her And she’ll think so thoroughly Your confidante for forever With confidence that she’ll reach He said, “Your life is the only thing That makes mine mean anything” She said okay then, not just big I’ll make mine massive Big, like he wanted Big, like he wanted She goes downstairs to say goodnight She goes downstairs to say goodnight She goes downstairs to say goodnight She goes downstairs to say goodnight Trade sleep to talk about life She goes downstairs to say goodnight She goes downstairs to say goodnight She goes downstairs to say goodnight She goes downstairs to say goodnight She goes downstairs to say goodnight She goes downstairs to say goodnight Trade sleep to talk She goes downstairs Big Big

Lucid Daimon 04:08
lyrics: But the sugar’s canceling out the medicine Where you wanna Where you gonna go Turn the light off And nobody knows Who you wanna Who you need to know Turn the light off Cuz I wanna go home But the sugar’s canceling out the medicine Watch the carpenter’s palm wrap around it And the captain sail clouds till he found it In the rafters, angle the spotlight down it Your radio hidden in cloud, in A pillow on her bed, the sound is “There’s usually no way around it” But Hold it, or you’ll lose it (Tell the nurse each time, you’re on the top floor) No more pleading ignorance You want it, so you have it (But you’re scared of heights, so what’d you do that for) Sleep in, spending time with him So give in and go use it (Summer nights, I was high above, one story up) You know where you’ll go with this Cuz we plan the appointments (Great talks, huh) But the sugar’s canceling out the medicine But there’s one thing I never brought up Where you wanna Where you gonna go (I found it in time, I buried the box) Turn the light off And nobody knows (A final high five for Team Albatross) Who you wanna Who you need to know (Oh, but you had to outdo me, you had to one up) Turn the light off Cuz I wanna go home (When I said his name, you pocket-tucked) Help her she’s stuck You left the atlas in your truck for me And the gobos on to set the scene We follow crumbs, we’re the ones who love too long to miss We give away more than we ever should have had to give Hold it, or you’ll lose it (Captain, who am I, do I deserve this) No more pleading ignorance You want it, so you have it (Obits and licenses, we type, the engine’s searching) Sleep in, spending time with him So give in and go use it (So copy & paste it and tell him look up) You know where you’ll go with this Cuz we plan the appointments (Help him he’s stuck) But the sugar’s canceling out the medicine There’s one thing I never brought up Where you wanna Where you gonna go (I found it in time, I buried the box) Turn the light off And nobody knows (A final high five for Team Albatross) Who you wanna Who you need to know (Oh, but you had to outdo me, you had to one up) Turn the light off Cuz I wanna go home (When I said his name, you) Where you wanna Where you gonna go (I found it in time, I buried the box) (Captain, never end the conversation) Turn the light off And nobody knows (A final high five for Team Albatross) (You haven’t since my mother’s 9pm frustration) Who you wanna Who you need to know (But you had to outdo me, you had to one up) (So I cried, new to life, until you called my name) Turn the light off Cuz I wanna go home (When I said his name) (In your arms, your rumbling voice) Turn the light off Cuz I wanna go (A conga heartbeat, safe) (When I said his name) The light off Cuz I wanna go (In your deejay broadcast ‘cross the sky) (When I said his name) The light off Cuz I wanna go (Pink clouds at night) Hi Em, it’s Dad, I know it’s 8:30 but I finally stopped running, it’s Saturday, and I had promised I would call you back. Um, if we don’t connect today, maybe we’ll talk tomorrow. Hope you’re having a wonderful evening. Hm-mm, bye bye.

about

Dad took his last breath finally, after fighting all day, bc I promised I'd figure out how to be okay -- and this album is how I've been making good on this promise, because writing music helps me.

The "Bedside Table" album is dedicated to my dad, and all the other "bedside tables" out there who have had to say goodbye to a loved one. May everyone get to turn someone they love into a legend.
